Kefir grains

Finally, after searching for quite some time, I was able to track down some Kefir grains from the UK. I think I even exhausted Dr. Google. The Kefir grains were swiftly & efficiently shipped to me. The first 2 batches I made were "different" from what I expected, but this may have been because the little critters were upset from travelling.

The reason I wanted the Kefir grains so badly is for a few reasons. First of all you can't get  any probiotic drink made with goat's milk. Now we can ! Secondly, the price of probiotic infused milk drinks are expensive. Thirdly, it seems that Kefir is healthier than yoghurt/probiotic drinks: http://www.probiotic.org/Kefir.htm

Excuse my battered glass jug, but this is what they look like, these little wonder grains:

If I look after them well, they will keep growing and soon I will have surplus supply. In the meantime, if you need any let me know and I will give you contact details of my supplier in the UK.

Fun fact: apparently, tradditionally kefir was made in skin bags that were hung near a doorway; the bag would be knocked by anyone passing through the doorway to help keep the milk and kefir grains well mixed. Can't see myself doing that quite yet.
